For those who decry the commercialization of Christmas, who long to put Christ back into Christmas, I say, "Go east, follow the signs of Rte 22 until you reach Rte 60, and there you will find the little town of Delmont."

The first two weekends in December, Delmont gives itself over to Christmas, in a very Christian way. The center of this celebration is the 'Pilgrimage' where visitors follow a well lit path past living dioramas of the Christmas story. One sees Mary reacting to the annunciation, and a few paces further, see Joseph as he is reassured that he should marry Mary. The Roman soldiers announce the census, and Mary and Joseph lead a mule towards Bethlehem. Shepherds, around a leaping bonfire, tend their sheep (safely penned from us pilgrims) and the 3 wise men procede on foot towards the barn where we will view the manger scene, animals, odors and all.

The cost for the Pilgrimage is reasonable: $5 for adults and $2 for children. The rules are strict: no talking, no photography, no chewing gum. You are taking yourself back in time.
