- - only 40 minutes away on Rte 22 west lies Wierton, the site of the famous bridge. It is a cable stayed bridge, with steel cables splayed out from a single central tower, supporting a 6 lane highway. It is both an engineering marvel and a work of art.

- Since the bridge brings you to Steubenville, you can stay for a visit to Fort Steuben, a reconstructed fort on South Third St. just south of the bridge. While there, you can pick up a brochure for the wonderful murals to be found throughout the city of Steubenville.

- Our next destination is not actually in W. Va. but it is close. It is Albert Gallatin's Friendship Hill in Point Marion PA . The easiest route would be to take 79 S to Morgantown, then Rte. 68 east to exit 7. Take 119 north back over the PA border to Point Marion.
Or, Rte 51 south to Uniontown, where you pick up 119 S to Point Marion.

- Arthurdale was a "New Deal" town created in 1934 by FDR and a favorite project of Eleanor Roosevelt. To get there, take Rte 79 S to Morgantown, get on WVa 7 to Reedsville, get on WVa 92 south, Arthurdale is only a mile from that fork.

|
- 79S to Fairmont (exit 139) and follow the signs to Prickett's Fort , a wonderfully restored pre-revolutionary fort.

|
- The next two destinations are very close together, but a 5 hour drive from Pittsburgh. They are well worth the trip, and there are cabins to be rented in Cass, so make it a weekend trip! 79S to Weston, then take 33 E to Elkins. 219/250 to Huttonsville where they branch apart. Then take 250 east to Bartow where you will pick up 92 S. First you will come to the National Radio Astronomy Telescope at Green Bank. Prepare to be awestruck. Only 3 miles beyond (on Rte 66 - there are signs) is the village of Cass, once a logging town, now the site of a tourist steam train, with rides up into the mountain. If you don't get your fill of steam locomotives at Cass, the town of Durbin, where 66 N meets 92, also has one, weekends only.
