Children's Labyrinth - Nov. 98

When Nana came to paint the garage, she brought a pail of white powder with her.

First, the kids had to rake the back yard.

Then, Nana took a paper bag and cut a hole in one corner. She put some of the white powder in the bag. She said it was garden lime and wouldn't hurt the lawn. She made lines in the lawn. She was following a special pattern.

All the children were very curious! They watched while Nana made the pattern in the lawn. She told them she was making a path.

"Only one way in" she said, "and then you take the same path right back out again."

The children ran and ran. They had a wonderful time! Ryan had a watch with a second hand. He timed how long it took to run to the center. Julie was the winner! She ran the labyrinth in 55 seconds.

But Nancy loved the labyrinth best. Even when others went inside to play, she put on her coat and ran outside for "just one more run". After supper, Nancy took flashlight to have a last walk in the dark.

Nana did a lot of painting that week. She painted lines. She painted the garage. And she also painted faces!
Hope wanted to be a tiger! Nancy wanted to be a butterfly. Then Hope wanted to be a little mouse.
Nana painted these disguises. "Where have my pretty granddaughters gone?" she asked.
"Rowrr" said the tiger. "Squeak" said the mouse. The butterfly didn't say anything. She just smiled.
